Use and associated unauthorised structures regularised after prior refusals

The residential dwelling had been used as an Islamic community centre, hosting congregational prayer, for more than 10 years. A number of unauthorised works had also been carried out to facilitate this use, and several prior applications had been rejected by Council. EHUP was engaged and successfully regularised the use of the community centre, together with all associated unauthorised structures.

Unauthorised Structures
Building work or a use that went ahead without approval can usually be brought into the system - through a building information certificate, a retrospective development application, or both.
Place of Worship
Churches, mosques, temples, synagogues and similar places of worship are permissible with consent in most residential and business zones, and a development application is the usual pathway.
Community Centre
Community centres operated by councils, not-for-profit organisations or community groups are generally permissible with consent across most residential, business and community-purpose zones, and the assessment is usually more straightforward than for other special-use land uses.
